Hi! My name is Freya, but I go by freyacantsleep online. I'm a Kirby/Gaming enthusiast in her late teens.
I've been into video games, namely Nintendo ones, from a very young age. Both of my parents are gamers,
which means by the time I came around there were plenty of games in the house. My favorite Nintendo game
series are Final Fantasy, Mega Man, Kirby, and Castlevania. I am also very fond of kooky RPG Maker games
and other strange or interesting indie games.
My first introduction to Kirby outside of playing the Super Smash Bros games were through my cousins.
They watched Kirby: Right Back At Ya! and had a Kirby and Waddle Dee plush (the 2010 Sanei ones from the
fourth set, with King Dedede). We'd play with the plushes a lot, and they would talk about Kirby a lot, so I
got interested in the series. I got Kirby's Adventure on the Wii U Virtual Console, and was hooked from that
point onwards.
Aside from managing this database, I like to draw and make games in RPG Maker. I also enjoy playing music
(guitar, bass, drums/percussion). Mainly I just sit around and play video games or watch Youtube though,
waiting for motivation to strike me (special fuck you to ADHD). You can check out some of what I do from
the "Contact Info and Where To Find Me" section below!
When I first got seriously into Kirby plush collecting (see below), I discovered that nobody had really made
even a list of all of the Kirby plushes. As it turns out, Kirby's early merchandise isn't well documented.
I had already made a list of Kirby plushes with some surface-level research, but I always knew there was
more. I had the thought kicking around my head of doing a total deep dive and trying to find as much info
about Kirby plushes as I possibly could. So, on September 3rd, 2024, I created this site.
The aim of this site, as the title suggests, is to be a database of Kirby plush information. I want to not only
create a resource to help other collectors on their journey, but also to document the history of Kirby plushes.
As previously stated, Kirby merchandise isn't well documented, so as an avid plush collector, and proponent
of media preservation in general, I feel this is very important.
My first Kirby plush was the original Meta Knight plush, first released in the 2010 "Kirby Plush Copy Ability
Series + Meta Knight" set. I got a few more over the years, mostly at conventions or my local comic book
store, but didn't get serious until May of 2024. I joined a Discord server that had a dedicated plush channel.
Up until this point, I had primarily collected Mario and Sonic plushes, and just in general I had a ton, so I
decided to take a picture of all of the ones I had at the time.
...And this was before I started collecting Kirby plushes. I realized that in comparison to Mario and Sonic, my Kirby collection was lacking considering how much I loved
the series. From that point on, I tried to find a list of every Kirby plush that had been made. I started by going to Wikirby's list of Kirby merchandise, however I noticed
that some Kirby plushes I had seen weren't on there. Around then I discovered that no one had really made a list of all of the Kirby plushes. Apparently in the early
years of their existence, Kirby plushes and merchandise as a whole weren't well documented (publicly at least). I decided to simply compile the ones I could easily find
information about, and that would be that.
Except that my curiosity got the better of me. This basic list soon became a much longer list. Whenever I thought I had found all that I needed, there would always be a
little something that led me down another rabbit hole of Kirby plushes I'd never heard of before. There was a lot out there just waiting to be found. At this point,
I needed to make a decision: Do I stop now and concede that it's too much for me, or do I continue and try to find and collect as much information as possible? Do I
leave myself with an embarassingly incomplete list, or do I dunk hours of my life into researching obscure Kirby merchandise of all things?
...Well you already know the answer to that, don't you!
